Joe Hanley Founder, Organizer, and FIDE Games Arbiter This is me competing in the 1998 Saitek US Masters at the Monarch Hotel in Waikiki from July 21-29. It was won by GM Boris Gulko followed by several other Grandmasters. Then, the next 2 weeks, we all flew to Kona to compete in the 1998 US Open. These 2 tournaments are the inspirations for me trying to create similar experiences for families today throughout the USA. My wife and I vacationed in the morning and then I competed in the evenings each day.
